Emergency Evacuation Plan
(McGuire Nuclear Station)

As you know, our school is located in the ten mile emergency evacuation zone for the McGuire Nuclear Station. We have contacted both the McGuire Nuclear Station and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management and discussed at length our process for emergencies.

It has been brought to our attention that there is some confusion regarding the evacuation locations published in Duke Power’s literature versus the locations printed in our literature that was recently sent home. Due to Duke Power having CCS listed at an outdated street address, their literature incorrectly lists Cabarrus High as our primary evacuation location. The correct evacuation locations as listed in all of CCS’s literature is correct.

If there was an emergency, the alarm would ring which signals us to immediately turn radios and televisions on to wait for further instructions. If our teachers hear the alarm, they will immediately walk students into the church (a more secure building) to wait for further instructions. If it is determined that we should evacuate, the highway patrol would take over the roads/highways and would not let anyone drive INTO the area. Therefore, it is imperative that you know where to meet the children. Please read this thoroughly and make sure you and your spouse have copies in your cars at all times.

The teachers and their assistants are instructed to load children into their cars for evacuation.

Our School is located in Zone H. This is important information since zones may be told to do different things (stay indoors, evacuate, etc.)

Our Reception centers for Zone H is:
1) South Iredell High School

The evacuation route that you should take is to go north on I-77 to exit 45. Go west on this exit (following signs) to get to the schools.

This information is not intended to alarm you. Instead, it is intended to make you feel comfortable that we are prepared for this emergency. The school phone number, 704-896-6262, will have a message on the answering machine or you can call Joy Warner's cell phone, 704-458-6567.
