"Art, too, is a universal language perhaps the most evocative form of human expression. Through singing and painting and dancing it is possible for people of different backgrounds to communicate powerfully their feelings and ideas. For young children, art is not a frill, it is an essential language that makes it possible to communicate feelings and ideas words cannot express." (Dr. Ernest Boyer, The Basic School). We weave the arts throughout our entire curriculum giving the students the opportunity to explore and respond to content through aesthetic experiences. We focus on art history, art appreciation and art making. Our students at every grade level attend monthly field trips to Children's Art Project. Their activities at CAP are focused on exploring process (rather than product) art experiences. Students have opportunities to explore both visual and performing arts. Each year, students will participate in a number of classroom performances so that they have extensive age appropriate experiences with dramatic presentations.

CCS currently offers our students special area classes in the areas of physical education, art, music, Spanish and sign language. Classes in music, art and physical education are offered once per week for 30-45 minutes with the Special Area teacher.
